After following Gibson for over half of the race, Johnson made his move on Lap 14, ultimately taking over the lead and establishing himself as the fastest rider on the track with an impressive 19-second lap time, three seconds quicker than the rest of the field. Johnson cruised to the checkered flag with over a six-second cushion on Gibson, who finished in the runner-up spot. Bowers encountered trouble while running third, falling to fifth by the end of the race and allowing FMF Power/Poynt TUF Honda?s Cole Siebler, of Emmett, Idaho, to take the final podium spot in third.
In the Arenacross Lites Class, Willard continued his strong start to the season. The Ohio native has been a staple at the front of the field this year, and after grabbing the early lead, he dominated the 18-lap main event to take over first place in the championship. Motostar Kawasaki?s Michael McDade, of Indiana, Pa., finished second, while HotRodsMXRacing.com Honda?s Austin Coon, of Spencer, W. Va., rounded out the podium.
In the Dash for Cash, Tyler Bowers grabbed the win in the exciting four-lap shootout. All proceeds went to Toys for Tots.
The Wilkes Barre Arenacross continues tomorrow, with the second night of action from Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza. Opening ceremonies begin at 7 p.m. ET.
